Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. Will Join the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers to Celebrate Funding to Expand Dementia Programming for Family Caregivers

On March 31, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) visited the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers (RCI) office to celebrate RCI’s receipt of $1 million in Congressionally Directed Spending to fund the expansion and cultural adaptation of RCI’s Dealing with Dementia (DWD) program. The funding will allow RCI to identify strengths, barriers, and opportunities to increase engagement with diverse audiences, particularly caregivers of color. RCI’s DWD program was initially developed because RCI recognized a need for family caregivers to have practical guidance when caring for people with dementia.

“Mrs. Carter’s passion for caregiving came from firsthand experience. Her support has helped [RCI] flourish as a national resource for caregivers and has helped improve the quality of life and quality of care for people across the country,” said Congressman Sanford Bishop.

Since the program’s launch, RCI has trained 750 trainers who have served more than 4,500 caregivers. Congressman Bishop has been a champion for family caregivers and thanks to his support, RCI will now be able to reach more caregivers across Georgia and beyond.
