President Biden’s Executive Order on Care First Anniversary

Today we commemorate the first anniversary of the Biden-Harris Executive Order on Increasing Access to High-Quality Care and Supporting Caregivers. This Executive Order brought attention and commitment to strengthening supports for family caregivers. While we applaud the progress made, there remains significant work ahead to build a high-quality affordable, and streamlined system of care.

We celebrate the shift in policy that the CMS Dementia GUIDE Model and the Physician Fee Schedule represent. RCI is committed to working with the Administration to bolster the success of these two initiatives by ensuring they result in meaningful change for caregivers. We offered key considerations for each initiative to help support caregiver health and suggest that the communities supporting caregivers are learning – in real time – alongside providers.

We believe this progress and continued commitment is best met with an Office of Caregiver Health to advance the health and wellbeing of family caregivers across the nation through the coordination of federal services, support, research, and education.

The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers has formally merged with The Carter Center, now functioning under its Mental Health Program.

By uniting the work of these organizations — both rooted in Mrs. Carter’s lifelong vision and leadership — we are taking concrete steps to expand support, champion policies, and develop innovative solutions for the millions of family caregivers who dedicate their lives to caring for loved ones.

Together, we will ensure that caregivers and individuals facing mental health challenges are seen, heard, and supported — now and in the future.
