Rosalynn Carter’s Birthday: Celebrations Planned to Honor A Life Dedicated to Caring

The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers is excited to partner once again with the Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historic Park to provide a weekend-long celebration from August 16th-18th honoring the life and legacy of Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.   

While being the first year the town of Plains will be celebrating since the passing of Mrs. Carter, her memory and legacy live on, thriving amongst the people of downtown Plains and the stories shared, in the beautiful gardens supporting the life cycle of her cherished monarch butterfly, and in the work of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers as it strives to carry on her mission to create a more caring society and lift up the vital role of the family caregiver across the nation.  

The 3rd Annual Butterfly Daze Event will include the following events: 

  • Evening reception honoring the vital role of the family caregiver, featuring a panel discussion with local caregivers and experts; 
  • Special musical performances by eight-time Dove Award-nominated singer/songwriter Andrew Greer;
  • Los Angeles’ St. Genevieve High School’s Valiant Voices Choir; 
  • Screening of “Dear Rosalynn ”, a 60-minute documentary film about Rosalynn Carter’s life; 
  • Food distribution in the community, honoring Rosalynn Carter’s commitment to service; 
  • Release of butterflies at the childhood garden; 
  • Afternoon of lectures and guest presentations about Rosalynn Carter’s life – CNN documentarian and author Andrew Och, Rosalynn Carter’s sister Allethea Wall, Rosalyn Carter’s sister, Rosalynn Carter’s sister-in-law Sybil Carter, Amy Carter’s nanny Mary Prince, plus various friends and fellow Plains community members;  
  • Fundraising auction of historical collectibles [ticketed event]; and; 
  • Church services followed by cake at Maranatha Baptist Church

Friends of Jimmy Carter was established to maintain a vibrant community offering personal, hands-on learning opportunities about, as well as virtual encounters with the vivid history inspired by this region of the United States.
