Statement from the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers on the Credit for Caring Act

“In line with our mission to promote the health, strength, and resilience of America’s 53 million family caregivers, the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers (RCI) supports the Credit for Caring Act (S. 3702/H.R. 7165). We applaud Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV) and Representatives Mike Carey and Linda Sanchez for their leadership to provide an opportunity for eligible working family caregivers to offset the cost of some caregiving expenses.

The Credit for Caring Act would create a new, non-refundable federal tax credit of up to $5,000 for eligible working family caregivers to help address a portion of the significant financial impact of caregiving. While this is an important first step, the absence of long-term care financing is a foundational cause of the strain and adverse outcomes that caregivers and their families experience. RCI will continue to advocate for key financing mechanisms to build a high-quality long-term care services and supports system that is affordable and accessible to everyone. “
