About RCI

The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers was created with the grounding philosophy of prioritizing family caregivers beyond the specific issue or health condition of those in their care. Rosalynn Carter continuously said, “There are only four kinds of people in the world. Those who have been caregivers. Those who are currently caregivers. Those who will be caregivers, and those who will need a caregiver.” Nearly 40 years ago Mrs. Carter’s visionary leadership inspired us to remain steadfast to see the unseen. Family caregivers are rarely the focus of policies or systems, creating immense strain and lack of support for this universal issue. RCI’s vision for all caregivers to be seen, heard, and supported is essential now more than ever.  We know the scale of this immense need for support requires more. We engage with family caregivers as the experts they are, to shape the systems to better serve those who provide care.

By focusing on evidence-based impact, we are steadfast in championing the well-being of all who care for others.  We’ve learned that family caregivers move through a specific Caregiver Profiles© experience. Our focus is to advance collaborative solutions rooted in evidence, driven by caregivers, and focused on achieving sustained impact that is prioritized at every level. RCI is a trusted convenor and advocate in the caregiver space, focused on advancing lasting solutions for family caregivers, shaped by their unique hurdles and experiences. We embrace the duality of transforming systems writ large while also seeing the individual needs and experiences of the caregiver.

Our Mission

The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers (RCI) drives transformative systems change to enhance the health, strength, and resilience of caregivers, ensuring their voices lead the way.

Our Values

Our values are the most essential, critical, and significant things we do at RCI. We prioritize:

Seeing All Caregivers

Fully understand and articulate the complex challenges of caregiving while effectively and efficiently communicating with caregivers and directly addressing and resolving issues that matter to them.

Innovation

Research and implement new and better ways to provide support to caregivers.

Advocate

Speak up, be a voice for caregivers and who they care for.

Call out inequities and injustices in the caregiving environment.

Collaboration

Communicate authentically, create meaningful, productive, honest, and synergistic connections.

Along with our values, our ways of being guide us as an organization. We look out for each other and strive to create a caregiving ecosystem that centers collaboration and community and respects varied and culturally relevant perspectives and approaches to this work. We have a big vision for the level of contribution we can and will make and we pass the mic to others so that what we collectively know is shared.

Our DEI Statement

The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers  is committed to promoting the health, strength, and resilience of caregivers through an inclusive approach rooted in equity and diversity. RCI recognizes the diverse backgrounds of caregivers and advocates for policies that address systemic inequities, ensuring marginalized communities have access to essential caregiving resources. By fostering a culture of inclusion, RCI works to create welcoming environments and drive long-term change, guided by a dedicated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Our Team

Our work supporting and advocating for caregivers would not be possible without the talented, hardworking, and compassionate team at RCI.

Our Founder

Rosalynn Carter’s experience with caregiving began decades before founding RCI in 1987, but it was the inspiration for and continues to fuel our support of caregivers today.

The John and Betty Pope Caregivers Scholarship

This scholarship is an opportunity for Georgia Southwestern State University students engaged in caregiving roles to reach their higher education goals.

We can’t do this work without the support of caregiver champions like you.
